Rolex Explorer 224270 Black Dial on Stainless Steel 2023

The 224270 is the Explorer that Rolex got right the second time. Introduced in 2021, it returned the reference to 40mm after the 214270's polarizing 39mm detour — a correction that collectors had been asking for since 2010. The caliber 3230 inside is the more consequential change: a movement built around Rolex's Chronergy escapement, a nickel-phosphorus lever and escape wheel that reduces energy loss by roughly fifteen percent compared to the lever it replaced, paired with a 70-hour power reserve. No date, no complication — the Explorer has always been defined by what it omits.

This example wears the black dial with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 and baton indices elsewhere, the configuration the reference has carried since the original 6350. On the black dial, the applied hour markers catch light at an angle that photographs simply flatten — the depth reads differently in hand. The case, bracelet, bezel, and crystal all present in very good condition with hardly visible signs of wear, consistent with a watch that has been worn but cared for. The Oyster bracelet measures approximately 21cm. A Rolex service was completed in February 2026, and the original warranty runs through 2028.
