Audemars Piguet Huitième ST25644 White Dial on Leather 1990
Description
The Huitième — French for "eighth" — occupies a quietly significant corner of Audemars Piguet's catalog. Introduced in the late 1980s as a dress-sport alternative to the Royal Oak, it offered a softer, more rounded case language while retaining the manufacture's commitment to in-house movement work. The ST25644 is the chronograph variant, running an automatic movement with column-wheel actuation, date, and quick-set — a combination that places real horological substance beneath what reads, at first glance, as a refined dress watch. The sapphire crystal and steel case construction were contemporary choices for the period, and the fold clasp — original AP issue — is the correct finishing detail for a leather-strapped configuration of this reference.
The white dial is the right choice here. Against a steel case, it reads with a clarity that darker dials on this reference don't quite achieve — the registers sit legibly, and the overall effect is closer to a dress chronograph than a sport one, which is precisely what the Huitième was designed to be. Original condition on a 1990 example is not a given; that this one presents without restoration is the detail a photograph won't fully communicate, but the hands will confirm the moment you hold it.
In very good condition throughout, offered as watch only.
