Rolex Datejust Lady 69173 Black Diamond Dial on Jubilee 1990
Description
The Ref. 69173 sits at the center of the Lady Datejust's two-tone era — a period when Rolex refined the 26mm case into something that balanced dressy restraint with genuine mechanical substance. Introduced in the mid-1980s and running through the 1990s, the 69173 pairs a stainless steel case with an 18k yellow gold fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet, the combination that defined the reference. Inside runs a self-winding movement, regulated and cased to Rolex's production standards for the period. The sapphire crystal, standard across this generation, protects the dial without the distortion that plagued earlier acrylic-fitted examples.
The black diamond dial is the configuration that rewards attention. Factory-set diamond indices replace the applied hour markers, and against a black ground they read with a clarity that the more common white or champagne dials simply don't produce — the contrast is sharper, the hierarchy of the dial more immediate. The Jubilee bracelet, in its steel-and-gold execution, wears with a suppleness that photographs consistently understate; the articulation of the links is something you feel before you notice it. This example dates to early 1990, placing it squarely in the reference's mature production run.
Offered in very good condition throughout — case, dial, bezel, crystal, and caseback all showing hardly visible signs of wear — with the bracelet in good condition showing signs of wear consistent with age. Offered with papers dated 02/27/1990; no box.
