Rolex Date 34 1505 Champagne Stick Dial on Oyster 1973
Description
The Ref. 1505 sits at the heart of Rolex's Date lineage — the 34mm Oysterdate that ran through the 1970s and into the 1980s as the caliber 1570-family movement reached full maturity. Rolex fitted the 1505 with a self-winding movement certified as a chronometer, housed in the classic Oyster case with a screw-down crown and the fluted bezel that had become the Date's signature silhouette. The plexiglass crystal, period-correct and still present here, is part of what makes a 1505 read as a 1970s Rolex rather than a later evolution — it has a warmth and curvature that hardlex and sapphire simply don't replicate.
The two-tone configuration — steel case and bracelet paired with 18k gold bezel and crown — is the more considered choice over the all-steel variant. It gives the watch a formality the steel alone doesn't carry, without the weight or commitment of solid gold. The champagne dial with applied stick indices is the right complement: it absorbs the gold tones without competing with them, and in warm light the dial shifts between cream and pale gold in a way no photograph quite captures. The Oyster bracelet, original to the period, wears narrower than modern references but sits cleanly on the wrist.
Offered in very good condition throughout — case, crystal, dial, bezel, bracelet, and caseback all showing only light signs of wear consistent with age. Watch only, no box or papers; warranty date recorded as 1973.
