Bulgari Parentesi BJ01 Silver Dial on 18K Yellow Gold

The Bulgari Parentesi collection occupies a specific and underappreciated corner of the house's design history — a geometric bracelet watch conceived in the 1980s whose interlocking link architecture made the bracelet and case a single continuous object rather than two components joined at a lug. The BJ01 is the smaller expression of that idea, at 20mm, and it wears the concept with full conviction. Movement is quartz, which is correct for the reference and for the period; the Parentesi was never about mechanical complication. It was about form, and the form holds.

This example pairs a stainless steel case with an 18K yellow gold bracelet and a silver "ghost" dial — so called because the absence of indices leaves the surface uninterrupted, the hour markers dissolved into the silver ground. Against a two-tone configuration with printed numerals, the ghost dial reads as the more considered choice: the geometry of the bracelet does the visual work, and the dial steps aside to let it. In certain light, the silver surface shifts between warm and cool depending on what the gold reflects into it — something a photograph reliably fails to show. The sapphire crystal is present and correct.
