Description

The Omega Constellation ref. 168005/6 belongs to the first generation of Constellations that established the line's reputation as a serious chronometer — not a dress watch that happened to pass a timing test, but a precision instrument that wore its certification on its caseback in the form of the engraved observatory and star motif. Introduced in the early 1960s, this reference is powered by the caliber 564, a 26-jewel automatic movement with a free-sprung balance that earned COSC-level accuracy before COSC existed as a formal body. The case is solid 18 karat rose gold throughout, 34mm — a diameter that reads as intentional restraint rather than limitation, and one that wears with a presence the number alone doesn't suggest.

The pie-pan dial — named for the raised chapter ring that angles down toward the center like an inverted dish — is the configuration that defines this generation. In gold with stick indices, it catches light across two planes simultaneously, and no photograph has yet managed to show what that actually looks like on the wrist. Rose gold was produced in smaller numbers than yellow, and the warmth of the metal against the gilt dial gives this example a coherence that the yellow-gold versions, for all their correctness, don't quite achieve. The plexiglass crystal shows honest wear consistent with six decades of existence.

Offered watch only, circa 1962, in very good case and bezel condition with age-appropriate patina on the dial.
