Hermès Birkin 35 Bleu de Galice Togo Gold Hardware 2018

Bleu de Galice is a deep blue with a grey cast — dark enough to function as a neutral, distinct enough that it is never mistaken for navy. It is a colour that depends on the surface carrying it, and Togo gives it one. The pebbled grain introduced in 1997 has a raised, finely veined texture that takes light unevenly, so the blue shades across the panels rather than sitting flat.

Togo is also the practical choice at 35cm. It resists scratching and light water, holds its shape without going rigid, and is light for its substance — the whole argument on the largest of the three standard Birkin sizes, where the leather's own weight is part of what you carry.

Gold hardware, warm against a cold blue, is what keeps the bag from reading austere.
