Description

The Cartier Baignoire is among the oldest shapes in the maison's vocabulary — an oval case derived from the early twentieth century, named for the bathtub curve of its profile, and one of the few Cartier silhouettes that has never needed reinvention to remain relevant. Reference 8057910 is a ladies' example from 1990, a period when Cartier was producing the Baignoire in two-tone configurations that balanced the warmth of 18k yellow gold against steel — a pairing that reads as more restrained than an all-gold version and has aged considerably better for it. The movement is quartz, appropriate to the era and to a case of this scale: at 22.5 x 31mm, the Baignoire wears close to the wrist, and a mechanical movement would have compromised the proportions the design depends on.

The dial carries Roman numerals, as it should — Arabic indices on a Baignoire read as a category error. There is age-appropriate patina noted on the dial, which on a piece from 1990 is not a flaw but a record; the sapphire crystal above it remains in very good condition with hardly visible signs of wear. The two-tone bracelet matches the case in condition. In hand, the oval case catches light differently at every angle — something no photograph of this reference has ever quite resolved.

Offered in very good condition, watch only, with a warranty date of 1990. All parts are original.
