Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 25730ST Black Dial on Stainless steel 1997
Description
The Ref. 25730ST belongs to a chapter of the Royal Oak that collectors often overlook in favor of the later 39mm and 41mm generations — which is precisely why it rewards attention. Introduced in the mid-1990s, this 36mm stainless steel dual-time with power reserve indicator represents Audemars Piguet extending Gérald Genta's original 1972 architecture into genuine complication territory without disturbing its proportions. The automatic movement drives a second time zone display and a power reserve indication integrated into the dial with the discipline the Royal Oak demands: nothing added that doesn't belong there.
The black dial is the correct choice for this reference. Against the brushed and polished surfaces of the integrated steel bracelet and the eight-sided bezel with its signature exposed screws, a black dial creates the contrast that makes the Royal Oak's geometry legible — the silver-toned index markers and hands read cleanly in a way the lighter dial variants simply don't achieve. At 36mm, this wears closer to the original 1972 spirit than anything that followed it, and in hand the case feels considered rather than compact. This example dates to 1997 and retains its original AP dial.
