Rolex Day Date 36 18038 Champagne Diamonds President
Description
The Rolex Day-Date Ref. 18038 is among the most consequential references in the Day-Date lineage — the 36mm yellow gold model that carried the collection through the late 1970s and into the 1980s, powered by the caliber 3055 and later the 3155, both self-winding movements with a day-of-week display that advances instantaneously. The Day-Date had been Rolex's statement piece since 1956, reserved exclusively for precious metals, and the 18038 refined that proposition with a sapphire crystal replacing the earlier acrylic — a meaningful upgrade in scratch resistance and optical clarity that collectors now take for granted but that marked a genuine transition in the reference's production history.
This example presents in yellow gold with a champagne dial set with diamond indices and a fluted bezel — the configuration that makes the most of the case's proportions. The diamond-set dial catches light differently than a printed or applied-index version; at certain angles it reads almost architectural, the stones pulling depth from what a photograph flattens into glitter. The President bracelet is correct for the reference and remains the only bracelet on which the Day-Date was originally offered. A crocodile strap is included alongside it, offering a dressier alternative that suits the dial well.
Offered in very good condition across case, dial, crystal, bezel, and bracelet, watch only, with a service completed October 2026.
